Hustopece

The eastern third of the Czech Republic is called Moravia and contains 94% of the country’s vineyards. The town of Hustopece (www.hustopece-city.cz) is situated in Velké Pavlovice wine sub-region which lies in the southern part of Moravia. Not far from here is Nove Mlyny dam, biospheric reserve Palava or the famous areal Lednice-Valtice.

The town has always been closely associated with winemaking and wine culture. This industry was the key factor of the development of the city and its inhabitants. In second half of 18 century the total vineyard area exceeded by more than 50% of the agricultural land and therefore, Hustopece became the largest winemaking municipality in Moravia. Despite the fact that winemaking in Hustopeče has waned since this golden age, the town definitely still occupies a strategic position as the gateway to the winemaking area of South Moravia and it is justifiably known as a town of good wine.
